After picking out your new sandals or hat grab a latte or Americano at Bikini Beans, a bakery/café with coffees and pastries and a walk-up window all in the same building. On weekends they will try to support local producers of flowers and veggies. And they ask anyone who would like to sell bakery products to visit.
All of this is affiliated with Lakeshore Design by Angela Jones and Jeremy and Samantha Pillon, two Buckhorn School grads.
Across the street is the Mainstreet Bar and Grill being completely redone to establish a new identity. A new paint job outside and an outside bar lakeside gets us started. There will be lights everywhere even in the ground. Live music provided by local groups will be on the scene.
The new owners want to establish a new vibe. A popcorn machine will be popping away and cotton candy will be twirled around the cone just like at a fair. Soft serve ice cream, frozen yogurt and smoothies will be there for you.
And the menu. Chas, the cook, tells us they are still experimenting with it but there will be burgers, all kinds of fish, fresh meat — that means never frozen — breakfasts including waffles and waffles with chicken, keto bread. The new owners from the Kawarthas are looking to provide an enjoyable dining time.
Back across the street at the business formerly known as The Lockstop Café owners Eric and Sharon Day from Alberta will provide a restaurant experience rather than a café or pub. The Days ran a catering company and restaurant in Alberta and are back to enjoy the family cottage on Chemong and get back in the restaurant business.
They, too, have upgraded the building with insulation and new decking. And the menu? We will soon find out.
