The provincial government is pushing to get the word out about a program to help expecting and new parents eat healthier.
Yesterday, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development, John Abbott announced increases to the Mother-Baby Nutrition Supplement. As of July 1, the program will give $100 per month to pregnant and new parents up to the child’s first birthday. As well, parents will receive an additional $100 the month the baby is born.
Abbott explains uptake in the program so far has not been what they were hoping.
He says they should be averaging between 400 and 500 people availing of the program, but right now they’re only seeing about half of that. They are going to work with the health authorities and family resource centers to get the word out.
