The non-profit company delivered for only three weeks last summer when an electrical fire destroyed the warehouse they were renting in Westfield.
County residents rallied in support of ELH after the fire, raising more than $8,000 through a GoFundMe campaign, which covered some losses and kept the budding local food initiative afloat while they looked for a new home.
“Everyone’s kindness after the fire was incredible,” said Gemma-James Smith, ELH Warehouse Manager.
“I cried so many times when people were donating. I was just speechless. You can really see people appreciate what we’re doing here.”
ELH hasn’t been idle — they spent the downtime between warehouses signing-up Huron County producers, and sourcing food that isn’t produced in Huron County from across Ontario. They are now working with more than 45 local producers.
Huron County residents can shop the store at EatLocalHuron.ca from 9 a.m. Wednesday until 9 p.m. Sunday and have their groceries delivered to their homes the next week.
