Michael Mosley shares one fruit you should eat daily to lower blood pressure - Daily Record

Doctor Michael Mosley has shared a fruit you should eat every day if you suffer from high blood pressure.

High blood pressure can be harmless initially, but can eventually lead to some serious health problems, such as kidney issues, a stroke, cardiovascular issues and even dementia.

Diet guru Dr Mosley has shared one tip he has for lowering your blood pressure, and it involves eating one thing each day. This advice has been produced from Michael's new book, Just One Thing, which has been published in The Sunday Times. In the book, the expert explains 16 different ways you can improve your life by taking simple steps each day.

The Fast800 diet creator, among many other success stories, has detailed how there is some truth in the old wives tale of "an apple a day keeps the doctor away".

He writes: "As well as containing lots of fibre, apples are rich in beneficial compounds called flavonoids. Most of an apple’s flavonoids lurk in or just under the skin — so ideally you should eat your apples unpeeled.

"Along with reducing inflammation and improving blood pressure, they have been shown to lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of diabetes."

Apples are the secret ingredient to lowering your blood pressure

The expert backs up these statements by using a study from the Edith Cowan University in Western Australia.

The researchers tracked a group of women aged over 70 for 15 years, and found that those who ate at least one apple a day were 35 per cent less likely to die than those who didn't.

Dr Mosley also added that a nutritionist noted the best variety of apple for eating each day, due to its high concentration of flavonoids.

Catherine Bondonno, a nutritionist who co-authored the study, said that Pink Lady apples are the best ones to consume, as they are the type of apple with the highest concentration of flavonoids.

Michael Mosley is full of great ideas on how to live a healthier life in a simpler way, with books and podcasts full of advice.
