Biggest sin I'm committing on earth is eating – Mackenzie - The Star Kenya

Controversial pastor Paul Mackenzie has now said the greatest sin he is committing on earth is eating food.

In a video seen by The Star, Mackenzie openly said the statement seated in court with his co-accused persons.

"Dhambi kubwa ninayoifanya duniani hivi leo mimi, ni kula. Lakini siku nitakapo okoka kutoka dhambi iyo ya kula, nitaishi na yesu milele."

This translates to: "The biggest sin I'm committing right now on earth is eating. And the day that I'll be saved from the sin of eating, I will live with Jesus forever," he said.

Mackenzie and his followers had staged a hunger strike between June 6 and June 10, claiming they were being mistreated in custody.

They were however arraigned in court and accused of attempting suicide for refusing to eat.

The strike led to one of the suspects losing his life resulting from complications and starvation.

The controversial pastor and his co-accused have already spent more than 90 days behind bars.

Last week, Mackenzie and his 27 associates were detained for further 47 days running from August 2.

The controversial religious leader was first arrested on April 15 and had stayed behind bars for 117 days, without being formally charged.

They are being blamed for their involvement in the death of more than 425 people whose bodies have been exhumed from Shakahola.

According to the State, it is better to invest more time in compelling investigations and do all that is necessary to expedite the hearing and the disposal of the case.
